Wealth management serves two distinct roles with different needs. Investors want clear visibility into progress toward goals without distraction. Advisors need depth—tools for portfolio construction, risk analysis, and oversight. Many platforms try to satisfy both in a single interface and end up overwhelming investors or limiting advisors. Our objective was to deliver both: clarity for investors and professional tools for advisors. Identifying the gaps The solution is role-specific interfaces. Investors see goals, performance, and risk level at a glance. Advisors get data-rich views for strategy selection and management. This separation reduces noise for investors and preserves full control for advisors. Advisor view shows key data in one place to support strategic decisions. Investor view brings clarity to performance without unnecessary complexity. Mobile as the unexpected priority User research showed mobile was the preferred channel for progress tracking among the target segment, contrary to initial assumptions. We adopted a mobile-first approach for the investor interface, with large type, high contrast, and simple visuals to maintain readability on small screens. Mobile design makes tracking college goals simple and effortless. One goal, one strategy Each goal is modeled and tracked separately. Instead of aggregating multiple goals into a single timeline, goals live on dedicated tabs with their own charts, metrics, and projections. This avoids cross-signal interference and keeps decisions focused. Each goal lives on its own tab with distinct metrics and projections. Portfolio value and expected value A paired view answers two questions: current portfolio value and projected value versus the selected strategy. One chart shows historical value and milestones; the second projects expected value, retaining the historical trace for context. High-contrast palettes improve prominence and meet accessibility standards. High-contrast charts combine historical and projected values for clear progress tracking. Risk/return comparison Advisors compare strategies using a compact risk/return scatterplot linked to a “return over time” chart. Shared axes and consistent scales make comparisons straightforward. Small, high-legibility markers maintain clarity at higher data densities. Advisors can explore risk and return through simple, accessible visuals. Drilldowns Every widget provides a drilldown state for deeper analysis. Axes, scales, and colors remain consistent across charts. Hover interactions highlight the same data point across linked views to support precise comparison. Advisors can explore risk and return through simple, accessible visuals. Asset allocation Allocation is role-specific. Investors see allocation by regions and industries for a big-picture view. Advisors can inspect strategy mixes and drill down to individual assets, supporting rebalancing and mandate compliance. Advisor’s dashboard: focused, informative, practical The advisor dashboard consolidates operational context: Assets under management (AUM) overview with trend for quick health checks. Strategy reference with short descriptions to speed selection and onboarding. Investor requests with recency and urgency, reducing inbox/CRM switching. Fees snapshot to monitor revenue contribution alongside core KPIs. Advisor dashboard entry point with only essential widgets. AUM and trend. Strategy reference. Investor requests. Fees snapshot. Conclusion Separate interfaces for investors and advisors, a mobile-first investor experience, and consistent analytical tools deliver clarity without reducing professional control. The result is a platform that supports goal-based investing for clients and provides advisors with efficient, auditable workflows.
